Advertising On Eyelids: A Clever Viral Campaign

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

We’ve all heard about pay per click (PPC) advertising but how about pay per wink (PPW)? Last month FeelUnique.com launched a very clever viral campaign, offering people the chance to earn 10 pence per wink. This would be paid to those who displayed the company’s logo on their eyelids.

As Amy Rebours of FeelUnique.com explained:

“We all take notice when we’re being winked at so what better way to advertise FeelUnique.com than on people’s eyelids. It’s a genuine marketing first, which encourages people to spread a feel-good winking moment and earn some much-needed extra income in the process.”

Of course, no one was ever paid on a pay per wink basis. Instead it was simply clever viral marketing aimed at generating buzz around the company. Those who applied to participate in the PPW campaign were told a couple of weeks later than applications were full and instead provided with a 10% discount voucher.
